A private retreat enables you to design your own format, participating in the Center’s daily schedule of meals and the celebration of the Eucharist as you wish. You may choose to eat your meals in private or in the Center’s Dining Room. You may come and go as you please. This type of retreat enables you to rest and pray according to your own inclinations. The goal of such a retreat experience is to listen to God speak to the heart. You may choose to spend a day, an overnight, a few days or even a week or longer, depending upon your individual needs.

A directed retreat is inspired and adapted from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Each directed retreat is tailored to the specific needs of the individual retreatant. In an individual directed retreat, you meet daily with a spiritual director who will guide you in prayer through the days of your retreat experience.

The directed retreat is an experience of personal prayer where you contemplate the mysteries of life, death and resurrection. It calls you to quiet reflection and discernment in the vocation to which God calls you. The directed retreat invites you into contemplation and meditation upon the Word of God to the inner movement of the Holy Spirit. One of the goals of such a retreat experience is to become more consciously aware of the constant presence of God in the life of each person.

A group preached retreat involves a retreat master preaching a series of conferences to a group of retreatants. There is a chosen theme for these conferences. Many of the group preached retreats at the Spiritual Life Center occur over the course of a weekend, beginning on Friday evening and concluding on Sunday afternoon. Groups vary in size from as small as twenty to as many as eighty persons.

In addition to the conferences, you are invited to spend time in quiet prayer with the Lord as you reflect upon the material presented in the conferences by the retreat master. Included in the retreat experience is the celebration of daily Mass and the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
