September 2010
The start of school marks the beginning of a new year of programs here at the Spiritual Life Center. New beginnings provide new opportunities for each of us to ask: How am I going to feed my spirit and my relationship with God?
The Religious Studies Program begins this year with Introduction to the New Testament by Dr. David Wall in September and October. Classes on the Sacraments by Fr. Pat York, Catholic Doctrine by Fr. Sherman Orr and Moral Theology by Fr. John Lanzrath will follow in the months to come. Come and take part in the Religious Studies Program to gain a firm foundation to be a Catechist in your parish or simply for personal enrichment in your faith. Sign up now for individual classes or for the whole year.
Beginning with this year, I will offer both Mornings and Evenings of Reflection each month beginning with the morning of Wednesday, September 8th at 9:00 AM and the evening of Thursday, September 9th at 5:15 PM (Dinner starts at 5:30 with optional evening prayer at 5:15 PM). These Mornings and Evenings consist of a spiritual talk, adoration, an opportunity for confession, Mass and a meal. I will speak about Spiritual Freedom in September.
We also have a very special event called, The Spirituality of Aging: Creating a Successful Retirement on Tuesday, September 28th with Dr. Richard Johnson who is a nationally recognized expert in the area of mature adult spirituality. I heard Dr. Johnson talk many years ago, and I still remember and find his words valuable in my life even though I am not near retirement.
Finally, it is not too early to plan for the 24-hour retreat we are offering called Healing our Grief with Jason Lewis on October 15-16th. This retreat will help those struggling with grief to discover their spiritual strengths that can help lead them through their grief.
In Christ,
